OUR FEATURED SUCCESS STORY - MARCH 2007

Bill Currer

Bill Currer and his wife Lilian joined Weight Watchers in February 2005 and Bill weighed in at 132,6 kilograms.

He told me that he had met a friend of his just before joining WW who told him that he was the fattest guy that he knew. This, as well as the fact that he had been for a medical check up and was told that he had high blood pressure, high cholesterol as well as sugar diabetes prompted him to get rid of his excess weight.

He lost weight steadily and I could see that he was determined to reach his goal weight. He was one of the few members who week after week was excited to step onto the scale and if he did not lose I would see the disappointment in his face but it never deterred him, rather it made him even more determined than ever.

After 10 months on the programme Bill had lost a whopping 30 kilograms and was named Slimmer of the Year for the Wynberg Class. When he went on holiday to the USA at the end of 2005 one of the first calls he made upon his arrival there was to find out where the WW classes were held but instead he got through to 911 and got an armed response to his enquiry.

Bill says that part of his secret is that he eats like a king in the morning, like a prince at lunch time and like a pauper in the evening. He always keeps his tracker (journal) of what he eats and plans his meals beforehand and then always makes it a rule to stick to his plan. He is always positive and always stays for the talks after the weigh ins. At this point a lot of the members in the class starting seeking advice and tips from Bill and they hang on to his every word.

In 2006 his weight loss was slower but it was still consistent and although he reached one or two plateaus he never ever thought of throwing in the towel.

In December 2006 Bill reached his goal weight of 88 kilograms. His wife has been told by the ladies in the class that she had better not let him out of her sight as they now considered him to be “quite a hunk!”

I think the cherry on the top for Bill came after he had reached his goal weight and he went for his medical check up. He was given a clean bill of health – the diabetes had disappeared, his cholesterol was normal, he no longer needs to take blood pressure medication and to crown it all he bumped into the same friend who told him that he was the fattest guy he knew, sitting in a pub and he did not recognise the new slim Bill!
